How to convert Assetto Corsa (AC1) mods to EVO

Thousands of cars and tracks exist for the original Assetto Corsa. EvoForge can adapt the ones you are allowed to use to Assetto Corsa EVO. Here is how, and what to expect.

What conversion does

Assetto Corsa EVO cannot read mods made for the original Assetto Corsa: the models, materials, physics files and sounds are organised differently. EvoForge takes an AC1 car or track you are allowed to use, analyses it, shows what can be transferred, then rebuilds it as an EVO mod that lands in your library, ready to drive. A report tells you what was carried over and what was not.

The Workshop: a converted car, its identity and its settings.

What you need

  • An EvoForge membership: conversion is part of it (from €5 a month on Patreon).
  • Assetto Corsa EVO, installed: required.
  • The AC1 mod: its folder, or its .zip archive. A .7z or .rar archive needs 7-Zip or WinRAR.
  • FMOD Studio 2.03 (optional): only for the engine sound.
  • Assetto Corsa installed through Steam (optional): only for the text on digital dashboards (speed, revs, gear). EvoForge finds it on its own.
  • Permission to use the mod. See creators’ rights below.

Converting a car

  1. Bring the mod in. Drop the AC1 car into the EvoForge window: it recognises an Assetto Corsa mod, says it has to be converted and offers Open in the Workshop.
  2. Read the analysis. Before converting anything, EvoForge shows what it found in the mod and what can be transferred to EVO.
  3. Click Convert →. A few moments later you land on the new car.
  4. Check the values. What was transferred from the mod is visible and editable in the car’s Tuning tab.
  5. Drive it. The car is in your library: pick it for a race and try it in game, then refine its look and behaviour in the Workshop if you like.

Converting a track

Track conversion follows three steps, each on its own screen:

  1. Source: choose the AC1 track folder (the one holding the .kn5 files) or its archive. EvoForge reads it before converting anything and shows its preview and its layout map.
  2. Settings: the essentials (name, layouts) and, if you want, the details of each element of the track.
  3. Launch: the conversion runs, then a summary tells you what was done. The track joins your library, ready for a solo race or a server.
Several layouts? A track that offers several layouts in AC1 keeps them in EVO, each available when you set up a race.

What to expect

The result depends on the mod: how it was built, its format and the features it uses. Many cars and tracks come out ready to drive; others need a few adjustments in the Workshop. Some things remain partial or unsupported, and the report lists them.

  • Protected models are not unlocked. A mod whose creator protected the models stays protected.
  • Engine sound needs FMOD Studio 2.03 on your PC; without it the car keeps a sound from the game.
  • Digital dashboards get their text from your Assetto Corsa install; without it, they use a generic font.

Creators’ rights

A mod belongs to its creator. Only convert mods you have permission to use, and check that permission before sharing a converted car or track. Creators can ask for their work to be excluded: once a request is accepted, EvoForge no longer converts or shares that mod.

Converted mods in multiplayer

To race a converted car or track online, every driver needs the same version. When you host a server with EvoForge, players who miss the content can download it from your PC, if you choose to share it. See how to host an Assetto Corsa EVO server.
