How to make a custom livery for Assetto Corsa EVO

Your colours, your number and your sponsors, on your car in the game and seen by the other drivers online. Here is how to make it with the EvoForge livery studio.

Updated on 3 November 2026EvoForge 1.1.44

What the game provides

Since version 0.8, Assetto Corsa EVO reads custom liveries (often called skins), named external liveries in the game. Each one is a folder in Saved Games\ACE\ExternalLiveries: the livery’s textures and a small file that describes it. It applies to a car saved in your in-game garage.

  • The official templates: Kunos publishes a guide and car templates (EXT_Skin_… files at 4096 × 4096) in the SDK documentation on its forum. You paint them in Photoshop or another image editor.
  • A community tool: ACE Livery Tool builds the livery folder from those images.
  • The game reads liveries when it starts: a livery added while it runs only shows at the next launch.
  • Online, another driver only sees your livery if they have installed the same folder. Otherwise they see the standard livery.

This works without EvoForge. It takes an image editor, some knowledge of the templates and an exchange of files with every driver. The EvoForge livery studio does the same from the car in 3D, and handles sharing online.

The EvoForge livery studio

  1. Open a car in the library, then its Liveries tab (or the Liveries button in its preview).
  2. Click New livery and start from a style: plain, racing stripes, side stripe, two-tone, fade, sash or hoop. Everything can be changed afterwards.
  3. Build it in layers, on the car in 3D: every change shows on it at once.
  4. Save, then click Drive with it.
The Liveries tab: start from a style, drive with it, share with your team and clubs.

Layers

  • Stickers placed by clicking on the car, then dragged, resized (Shift) and turned (Ctrl): text in 14 fonts with outline and letter spacing, your race number, shapes (roundel, panel, star, chevron, arrow…), your own logos in PNG, JPG or SVG, recoloured in one click.
  • Patterns that follow the body: racing stripes, side stripe, two-tone, fade, sash, hoop, chevron, checkers, halftone, camo, honeycomb, twin lines.
  • Whole panels painted with a click, both sides at once, and a number panel in one click.
  • Both sides in one go: a sticker is repeated on the other side, readable (text) or mirrored (arrows).
  • Your driver details: number, name, initials and team fill in the texts. The door number plates show your number in the game too.

Colours and finishes

  • Five livery colours linked to the layers: change one and the whole livery follows.
  • The game’s finishes: gloss, metallic, pearl, satin, matte, chrome, per layer or for the base paint.
  • Real carbon: a layer with the Carbon finish shows the car’s own weave, in the game too.
  • Paint the rims and paint the windscreen banner (background, text, font) on cars that have one.

Undo and redo, autosave and keyboard shortcuts (arrows, duplicate, delete, front, side and top views): it works like a drawing program.

The studio: the car in 3D, its layers, the five livery colours, the rims and the windscreen banner.

Expert mode

The studio opens on the essentials. Expert mode adds what livery designers ask for:

  • materials per zone of the car, with exact metalness, roughness and clear coat values;
  • blend modes and UV templates;
  • Export files: the livery as Kunos template files at 4096 × 4096, to rework in Photoshop;
  • Import files: a livery made elsewhere (Kunos template, ACE Livery Tool, LiveryLab), with its finish maps if you have them. EvoForge tells you what it did not use;
  • the choice of showroom environment around the car.

Drive with your livery

Drive with it sets the livery on your EvoForge car in the game. Races started from EvoForge take that car by themselves: solo race, direct start or online. The race sheet shows My livery: you can pick another of your liveries there, or a factory livery, for one race.

The same livery in the game, on the car that races started from EvoForge take.

The studio works with the game’s cars that accept custom liveries, which is most of them, and with cars converted with EvoForge. A modded car by another author is supported only if its body accepts custom liveries.

For mod creators: in expert mode, Add to the mod turns a studio livery into one more factory livery of your own conversion, picked in the game like the others. EvoForge rebuilds the mod: drivers and servers with the previous version need the new one. Never offered on a protected mod.

Your liveries online

When you join a server through EvoForge, your livery goes with you, and the liveries of the other EvoForge drivers on that server are set in your game before it starts. Everyone races in their own livery and sees everyone else’s. It is free for every EvoForge account, member or not.

  • Two switches: Show my livery to other drivers and See other drivers’ liveries.
  • The game starts once everything has passed: your livery sent, the others received. Start without waiting starts it straight away.
  • Liveries seen online are not kept: they are deleted when you close the game, when you move to another server, or when no EvoForge driver is on it any more. Only the liveries shared with your team or a club stay stored.
  • Drivers who join after you: EvoForge asks you once, at start-up, whether to add an optional component to the game folder so you see them during the session too. Without it, they keep their plain livery until the next launch. You can change your choice in Settings › Online liveries.
  • Drivers without EvoForge see the plain livery.

Share with your team or club

Share sends a livery to your team or one of your Paddock clubs. Members click Use: they get their own copy, with their number and name in place of yours. Captains and the team principal can make it the team livery for a car. A shared livery can be reported to the moderators.

In a club championship, each driver picks their car and livery from pictures when they register. See how to run a league or championship.

Free or member

The livery studio is part of the membership, from €5 a month: create, edit, share with your team and clubs, drive with it. Without it, the Liveries tab still lets you take a livery off or delete it, and showing and seeing liveries online stays free.

FAQ

Can you make custom liveries in Assetto Corsa EVO?

Yes. Since version 0.8, the game reads external liveries stored in Saved Games\ACE\ExternalLiveries, made from the templates Kunos publishes. The EvoForge livery studio lets you design them directly on the car in 3D.

Where are Assetto Corsa EVO custom liveries stored?

In the Saved Games\ACE\ExternalLiveries folder of your Windows account, one subfolder per livery. The game reads them when it starts.

Do other players see my custom livery online?

Without EvoForge, only those who installed the same livery folder. With EvoForge, EvoForge drivers on the same server see each other’s liveries automatically, for free. Drivers without EvoForge see the plain livery.

Can I import a livery made in Photoshop or ACE Livery Tool?

Yes. In expert mode, Import files takes a livery made from the Kunos templates, in ACE Livery Tool or in LiveryLab. Export files does the opposite, to rework a studio livery in Photoshop.

Why does my new livery not show in the game?

Assetto Corsa EVO reads liveries when it starts. A livery set while the game is running shows at the next launch: close the game and start the race again from EvoForge.

Is the livery studio free?

No, it is part of the Patreon membership, from €5 a month. Showing your livery and seeing other drivers’ liveries online is free for every EvoForge account.

Ready to try it?
