How to install mods in Assetto Corsa EVO

Assetto Corsa EVO supports mods, but it ships without an installer or a Content Manager. Here is where the files go, how to install them by hand, and how to do it with a single drag and drop — packs and tracks included.

Where Assetto Corsa EVO mods go

Assetto Corsa EVO reads its mods from a single folder in your Windows profile:

C:\Users\<your name>\Saved Games\ACE\mods

Car mods for EVO are distributed as .kspkg packages: one file per car, usually delivered inside a .zip archive. Track mods are different: they come as folders, and the game’s mods folder alone is not enough to make a track appear. That is the main reason people look for an installer.

Mods made for the original Assetto Corsa do not work in EVO. An AC1 car (a folder with .kn5 files) has to be converted first. See how to convert Assetto Corsa mods to EVO.

Installing a car mod by hand

  1. Close the game. Assetto Corsa EVO reads its content when it starts.
  2. Unpack the archive you downloaded and find the .kspkg file inside.
  3. Copy it into Saved Games\ACE\mods. Create the mods folder if it does not exist yet.
  4. Start the game: the car appears in the car selection, ready for a race.

This works for a single car. It becomes tedious with a pack of twenty mods, with .7z or .rar archives, when a new version replaces an old one, and it does not cover track mods.

Installing mods with EvoForge (drag and drop)

EvoForge is a free content manager for Assetto Corsa EVO. It installs mods for you, puts them in a library and keeps track of what is already there.

  1. Download and open EvoForge. On first launch it prepares its data from your own copy of the game. Nothing from the game is downloaded.
  2. Drop the mod anywhere in the window, or use Install › Browse… (use Browse for a folder).
  3. Check what will be written. EvoForge recognises each item (car, track, pack, saved race) and lists the files before touching anything.
  4. Click Install. If the game is running, EvoForge waits and says so: close the game and the install resumes.
  5. Find it in your library, or pick it straight away for your next race.
Installed mods sit next to the game’s own cars, with filters by brand, category and origin.

What EvoForge accepts

  • .kspkg car packages;
  • .zip archives, and .7z or .rar archives when 7-Zip or WinRAR is installed;
  • track folders made for EVO: EvoForge performs the extra steps a track needs, backs up what it changes first, and restores it if anything goes wrong;
  • packs: one archive or one folder holding several mods;
  • .evorace and .evogrid files: races and grids shared by other drivers.

Installing a whole mod pack at once

Drop a pack and every car and track gets its own line. Before anything is written, EvoForge shows the ones you already have and lets you choose for each: Replace, Keep both (the new one is installed under another name) or Skip this file. Then a single button, Install all, installs the lot.

League organisers: zip your event’s race file with the mods it needs. Every driver drops one file and gets the same cars, track and race settings.

Managing installed mods

The library brings original content and mods together. Select several mods to Turn off them without deleting anything, Turn back on later, or Delete them for good. Open any car in the 3D showroom to inspect it, its cockpit and its liveries before you race.

Mods in multiplayer

When you join a server that uses cars or a track you do not have, EvoForge lists what is missing and downloads it directly from the host’s machine, when the host shares it. More in how to host an Assetto Corsa EVO server.

If a mod does not show up

  • The game was open during the install: restart it. EvoForge waits for the game to close before writing.
  • It is an AC1 mod (.kn5 files, data folder): EvoForge tells you it has to be converted and offers to open it in the Workshop.
  • The archive does not open: .7z and .rar need 7-Zip or WinRAR. A .zip always opens.
  • Two mods share a name: choose Keep both and the new one gets its own identifier.

FAQ

Where is the Assetto Corsa EVO mods folder?

In your Windows profile: Saved Games\ACE\mods (C:\Users\your name\Saved Games\ACE\mods). Create the mods folder if it does not exist. EvoForge finds it on its own.

Can you install track mods in Assetto Corsa EVO?

Yes. The game’s mods folder alone is made for cars, but EvoForge installs track mods made for EVO, and converted Assetto Corsa tracks, with a backup of what it changes.

Is installing mods with EvoForge free?

Yes. Installing mods, the library, the 3D showroom, solo races, multiplayer and the Paddock are free. A Patreon membership unlocks the workshop, conversion of AC1 mods and server hosting.

Does EvoForge work on Linux?

Yes. EvoForge has a Linux version, installed with a one-line script, alongside the Windows 10 / 11 installer.

Ready to try it?

EvoForge is a free download for Windows 10 / 11 and Linux. Assetto Corsa EVO required.
